We used feathers, paint, googly eyes, and other small craft supplies to decorate rocks we found around the backyard. Some campers decided to make scary trolls, while others decided theirs would be nice. Once the trolls were complete, the campers decided we needed to build them a bridge to live under just like the story. I helped them gather the scrap wood from under our shed and left the construction up to them.
The campers spent the majority of the afternoon constructing a safe and sturdy bridge. It took a lot of trial and error to get the bridge to be passable. They used cooperation, team work, problem solving skills, hand eye coordination, listening skills, and their creativity to accomplish this task. I was very impressed with the final outcome, and I think the children were too!
And to think it all began with a story.....
